Can any Muslims explain why this Islamic coin from the time of Abd al-Malik has the image of Muhammad, Abu Bakr and Aisha on it when the making of images was supposed to be haram? It seems strange that Islam should ban the making of images only AFTER the time of Muhammad. And since Muhammad, your final prophet, had supposedly been dead more than 60 years, who was calling the shots and making these Islamic laws in his place? Doesnt that also mean that, if they did it 6 decades after his death, then anyone can change Islamic law today? The information below is from the Taboo Numismatics Flickr Page: The coin was minted by Caliph Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan 77 AH (693 CE).. Gold Dinar, Damascus mint. The Prophet Muhammad, flanked on the left by his Companion and First Caliph Abu Bakr, and on the right by his wife and Abu Bakrs daughter Aisha. All three are grasping swords in their right hands, including Aisha, and Aisha is wearing a veil. The photo is from the Taboo Numismatics Flickr Page.
