Can anyone help Gresham Hendee: Im reaching out as my Hooty - TopicsExpress

Can anyone help Gresham Hendee: Im reaching out as my Hooty turned 16 in September. I rescued him 6 years ago and hes my everything. Hes had stomach issues on and off for a few years where he gets diarrhea, gets the shakes and just feels bad. He will refuse his kibbles but rice normally does the trick. My sister, and Oncologist DVM, has suspected Cushings but his lab work hasnt been indicative of that. He drinks a ton and pees like a horse. In June he had a bought like this while I was gone got a week. He will stop eating around day three of me being gone, we are pretty dependent on each other. He had another in September when I had to go away yet again. Since then he has refused kibble and ate canned. About a month and a half ago he started refusing to eat his canned. I could get him to eat by handing him chunks. In the last three weeks hes lost a lot of weight, cant walk well and sleeps a ton. Hes had diarrhea those three weeks and is barely eating. Hes getting an anti nausea med, prednisone, Prilosec beneficial bacteria. Two days ago he looked bad and had refused food for over a day. He was bad enough I left him under my sisters cafe to get calories into him. He ate a partial burger patty and some bun. Yesterday I was told that the signs pointed to a tumor in his GI some place that probably is secreting a hormone that stops the GI from processing good. There are no cancer markers to test for in dog cancer so its all done visually. Tumors like this can often go unseen as they can be super small, and yet still be super nasty. Now I dont subscribe to that, perhaps due to me feeling guilty that I wasnt feeding him enough food. I also think in the same span of home hes been doing bad, hes had little contact with his daily friends (my landlords) as the cold has drove them to keep their doors open for him. Like all doxies, he has to have a pack around. When Im around, he follows me everyplace and whines at the door when I go into the bathroom. This is probably due to have been rehomed many times before adopting me. He was so bad on Friday when I was told he probably would needed to cross over the rainbow bridge. Through major pain I agreed and said Saturday would be the day and that I wanted to take him home that night so I could drive him around the places he liked to sniff out the window. I stopped for a burger and fries and he begged so I let him eat as many fries as he wanted (desalted) and a full hamburger patty. He perked up when we got home and started looking better. Today he ate another patty, some turkey and was force fed some prescription diet to help get of vitamins in him. Well tonight hes got diarrhea still, and he puked a little. When we got home though, he ran around in the back yard and begged for food inside, so I heated turkey for him which he gobbled right up with gusto. Now hours later he laying on the carpet in an awkward position like he does when hes not feeling well. Im reaching out to see if there is anything that my sister and I may have overlooked. Shes an awesome and highly educated DVM, but sometimes getting another opinion can really help. Hooty means the world to me and I just want the best for him,
