Can this country stop and re-boot? I mean, cant we just start all over again? Like it was 1st September 1957 all over again. Minus the Indonesian confrontation and 13th May of course. (Because now we have the benefit of hindsight). So, the immediate steps would be to implement the Cambridge syndicate exams again. Equip our schools with dedicated teachers who are bi-lingual. And stream students according to achievements rather than race. Make the school less race-centric and religion-centric. Focus on excellence in goodness and strength of every student rather than the chase for 24 A1s. Speaking which, my school used to have a dental clinic, fully equipped, complete with dental visit schedule for every student. What has happened to that now? Then we would also have to re-boot the civil service. Attract multi-racial populace. Where people are rewarded and promoted based on achievements, dedication and hard-work as well as good brain. If we could do that before, why cant we do it again? And make the civil service less race/religion-centric as well. Then we look at infrastructure all over again. Re-arrange our priorities. Re-think and re-define what infrastructures mean. Re-look at basic needs. Roads, utilities, health care, public transportations, public amenities, public safety. We have to re-define these. Because in order to catch up, what wasnt basic before could be basic now. Take broadband for example. The the economy. Where are we heading? What is our 5 year, 10 year, 15 year and 20 year projection? Where will income come from? Where will the debit go to? Do we need loans? If so how much? How do we collateralise them? How do we maximise the value and utilisation of our assets? Then we look at the globe. What is happening around us? How do those things impact or will impact us? Imminent shift from the USofA to a Russia-China and even India power play in East Asia, for example. How will that impact us? What do we do to prevent adverse and negative impacts? Then we look at aesthetics and philosophy. Art and culture. And sports. How do we enjoy ourselves and our lives? And make people happy and alive. How do we make people proud of our country. How do we re-live the glory days of our hockey team, football team, badminton team? And how do we continue our excellence in squash? And how do we explore other sports in which we are showing signs of excellence, like cycling and water sports. Forget about the billion dollar tower and projects. Straighten up those things first. Then when we die, we know right before that moment that we have tried our best at nation building. And we pray that our children will continue our legacy. #FridayThoughts
