Can we seriously stop taking student class evals. so seriously when it comes to Tenure tracks or anything else, really? Rate my professor or your schools own in-house version should NOT, in any way, have any weight on any of this. All it takes is two days in a classroom to see how an excellent professor is underrated by less than average students; and how a less-than-average professor is worshipped by lazy not-so-excellent students. The ratings are in no way indicative of ANY pedagogical skills whatsoever; in fact, theyre mostly just either butt-hurt Professor GAVE me an F students vs. those who rarely even fill these things. What are we left with? Were left with a long-winded rant or worship that is probably not merited. Just have a committee sit in a class and save the paper/web space of student evals. theyre rarely on spot anyway.
