Can you hide your face? Behind the contours of that mask, And still boss around, How genuine your scheme of things has been, And assume your peace of mind, While a panicked face cries within. And does it help you, To fake a calculated smile, Or to hide the weight of a toast youve raised, Or to polish the other masks around, And see your reflection in their gleam, And act happy about what they show, Has your mask become a wall my friend? Or Has it become an ajar window? And do you get off it, While you share a kiss, Or make love, Or sing a prayer, Or make wishes over a shooting star, Do you shed your tears in a caliberated flask, Or do they penetrate its thickest layers, Do those tears sneak out of your mask?? Arent you afraid? That by the time they flash you the end-signal, When you are tired, drenched and tasting salt, When its grip suffocates you, And you try to pull it away, And it wont come, Arent you afraid? That this souvenir of a mask, Theyd handed you before the race, Can somehow, somewhere down the lane, Manage to replace your forgotten face. Bijay
