Canada and the Netherlands issue a joint statement on the crisis in Ukraine, on the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands “Today, in the face of Russia’s unacceptable behaviour, Canada and the Netherlands again stand united in support of Ukraine’s democratic future as a sovereign, unified and prosperous European state, free of Russian interference and threats. “Canada and the Netherlands strongly condemn Russia’s use of provocation, in particular the military buildup around its borders. We jointly call on Russia to follow through on its Geneva commitments to de-escalate the crisis. Anything less will be deemed unacceptable. “As friends, allies and partners for democracy, human rights and the rule of law, Canada and the Netherlands will continue to work closely to support the Ukrainian people as they move towards elections to establish a peaceful government that respects their democratic rights.” Source: John Baird, Foreign Minister of Canada, via Facebook post
