Candy Lovett shared this video... A child reading a letter to his mom and dad about their divorce. Sooooo not judging or otherwise guilting. And I know families who have come down to the no other option point. Who have fought tooth and nail, but the hard, sad decision to divorce was all that could be done. And I know parents who are INCREDIBLE examples of what a good divorce should look like... Especially for the sake and hearts of their kiddos! But I also think on the flip side of that there are many that marry with the idea that its a sure hope it works out arrangement instead of a until death do us part agreement. Marriage is hard. I talk to Laney often (as my mom did with me) about the fact that building a family is work, that things arent always perfect, that you prayerfully choose your mate, and then commit wholeheartedly whatever comes. Laney sees us discuss. But she also sees us love and apologize and hug and pick on each other. She sees us practice the lifelong dance of marriage in hard places and in easy times. I think we have to teach our kids that... At the same time we walk through it ourselves... That its okay for things to not be perfect, and that imperfection is a chance to build an even stronger family... So that one day they grow up and know that marriage is more than a try and see. Caleb Vines and I have faced times where we had to look hard at each other and decide to be stubborn enough to fight our way back. But those battles have made us better - both individually and as a couple. So, anyway...
