Cant decide between 1 fighter / 19 warlock, or 1 cleric - TopicsExpress

Cant decide between 1 fighter / 19 warlock, or 1 cleric (tempest) /19 warlock Heavy armor master feat variant human at 1, then Warlock (Fiend) goodness (evilness?) all the way. Agonizing blast asap, false life invocation and devils sight are next 2, not sure which first. Fighter gives +1 AC stance, second wind 1d10+1, str/con save proficiencies. Stats 16/10/14/10/8/16 or 15/10/16/8/8/16. 21 AC in plate/shield/stance. 15 min str for plate, debating 16 str or 16 con. Cleric gives access to 2 lvl 1 wis spells per day (also usable with warlock slots in emergency for heals),1-2 2d8 lightning rebukes per day based on wis 13-14, but stats are 16/10/12/8/13/16 or 15/10/12/8/14/16 (12 con -> low health). 20 AC in plate/shield. Debating 16 str or 14 wis. 15 min str for plate, 13 min wis for cleric. Plus, deity lawyers might try to come up with reasons they dont like mixing cleric and warlock, despite any cool backstory or RP I can come up with (neutral vengeance focused character taking help from a demon to help him fight dragons better, etc. Think Ghost Rider). Lower health disadvantage is mitigated by heavy armor master damage reduction and temporary hit point sources. At least Ive ruled out vengeance paladin 2-3 / 17-18 warlock, which took much deliberation. 19 gives all stat boosts, and only 1 level of dip minimizes how far behind warlock power gets. 17 min warlock for lvl 9 spell, so I dont want to consider 4/16 or 8/12 variants. I really like the synergy between heavy armor master and multiple sources of temporary hit points (false life invocation, armor of agathys, dark ones blessing). And, based on my first 2 HOTDQ sessions, defense is really important in 5e. Thoughts/advice?
