Captains log Sept 13-15 Were on our way to Red Wing, MN but first we have a stop in Prescott on a fancy big boat (yacht to us) where our friends Mike and Renae treat us to wine and tea and suggest we check out the harbor bar in Red Wing. A full days paddling ahead of us, we head back on the water. The river is busy with weekend boaters in their big fancy boats..more than weve ever seen before. We stop at biker bar The Nauti Hawg, mostly to stretch our feet. Get sucked in next door to a private beach owned by grandparents, and almost dont make it to the harbor bar in time. But yet again, luck is on our side and we get a tow from a fellow boater and friend, Brian, who was driving by and took interest. We got to the harbor bar just in time to meet some people wed met earlier that day on the river, the awesome bar tenders, and it didnt take long until we noticed the Jamaican theme of the bar. They offered us showers and laundry and a place to stay which sold us. The residents of the marina were so welcoming and friendly. We spent the next day doing laundry and hanging out, performing for a Sunday day crowd. A couple wed met treated us to a sunset ride in their cabin cruiser. It was probably one of the coolest things because well a.) they were really cool people and b.) Phyllis wore a Cowboy the cockatoo who had a personality rather large for his size. What was really cool about this bar was the owner, Brad. Hes been working really hard to get involved with Jamaica to give Jamaicans work opportunity in the states. Its not an easy thing to do, but hes so passionate about it, and it shows. Brads humble and giving heart gave us a lot of inspiration. It wasnt easy leaving the Harbor Bar after all the fun we had there, But with Lake Pepin ahead of us we had little time to spare. We are ready to punch Pepin in the face with a wind on our tail and good weather ahead. Many hours of paddling later, we see something we did not expect - a man waving us in to shore. Exhausted from paddling, we pull over eagerly and get a very warm welcome from Hammer and Donna, a couple who live on central point and like to see mississppi travelers. They fed us and gave us a place to stay and gave us a lot of good information. They introduced us to Mississippi River Paddlers, a Facebook page that introduced us to Ryan, a good new friend of ours. :) P.s. thank you Brad, Robert, Bear, Patti, and harbor bar staff, Mark, Phyllis, Bill, cowboy, Max, Julie, Brian, Hammer & Donna.
