Carolinas Regional Convention Updates and Reminders Hello Carolinas, The Carolinas Regional Convention is this upcoming weekend and we are looking forward to celebrating our chapters accomplishments and seeing many of our friends soon. Here are some updates and reminders to help prepare you for the convention. An agenda is also attached to this post. Please share this information with everyone attending the convention. Voting Delegate – Before you arrive and register make sure your chapter has selected a voting delegate to represent your chapter for the regional officer elections. The voting delegate from your chapter needs to sign in at the registration desk upon arrival and pick up their voting delegate packet and “Voting Delegate” ribbon for their nametag (ribbons are inside of packet). This person will be required to attend a Candidate Caucus & Breakfast on Saturday morning. This breakfast will be open to the voting delegates and candidates only. The voting delegates will also be responsible for casting your chapters vote before the awards banquet on Saturday evening. Regional Officer Candidates – All candidates should check-in at the registration desk to receive your “Officer Candidate” ribbon for your name badge. Before you can begin campaigning you must be officially registered and all your forms have been turned in. If you have not already sent in the signed Honor Code for Regional officers you must turn it in at the registration desk when you arrive. South Carolina Vice President Candidate Nominations – we did not receive any nominees for the regional officer position of South Carolina Vice President by the deadline so we will open the floor for nominations at the first general session on Friday evening. If you are interested in this position make sure you are prepared to campaign and attend the political rally on Friday evening, the candidates caucus and breakfast on Saturday morning, and give a speech on Saturday during the second general session. If you need additional information or have any questions in regards to qualifications, duties, or campaign information please e-mail me at [email protected] . If you know your chapter is nominating someone for this position, the potential candidate is also welcome to attend the Regional Officers Candidate’s Orientation meeting scheduled on Friday evening (March 14, 2014) of the convention at 6:00 pm in the Executive Parlor at the Charleston Marriott – please meet at the registration desk (Topaz Promenade) a few minutes before 6:00 pm and we will go up to the Executive Parlor together. The campaign speeches given during the second general session on Saturday cannot exceed three minutes, and you should use approximately one minute to tell about yourself and your goals for the region, and two minutes to address the current Honors Topic – Frontiers and the Spirit of Exploration. Roll Call - There will be a chapter roll call during the first general session on Friday evening so be sure to come up with a unique roll call to let everyone know that your chapter is in the House!!!! After the First General Session on Friday evening there will be a Political Rally where everyone will get a chance to meet the candidates running for regional office. There will also be hors d’oeuvres at the Political Rally for everyone to enjoy. Following the Political Rally we will have some fun with Music and Karaoke by DJ Dish. The general dress code for the convention is casual with the exception of the Saturday evening Awards Banquet. The theme of this year’s awards banquet is an “Ole Charleston” and “Mardi Gras” theme with purple, emerald green, gold, and black as the theme colors. We would like to encourage everyone to dress up in an ‘ole south Mardi Gras outfit with masks in the banquet colors for the awards gala if possible but as always this is an option as any dress clothes will do. Following the awards banquet will be the Saturday night Social & Dance with music by DJ Jazzy J. Don’t forget to visit the Merchandise Mart in the Opal II room which will be open from 4:30-6:30 pm on Friday before the first general session. Door Prize Drawing - All chapters are being asked to bring some items such as chapter t-shirts, etc. for the door prize drawing which will be held before we adjourn on Sunday. We will also have a Phi Theta Kappa representative joining us for the weekend. Daniel Chitty, International President, will be our guest for the weekend so please make sure to give him a warm Carolinas welcome.
