Cate update, Americas Next Top Model edition: This afternoon, Cate was super excited to be asked by a child life specialist if shed be a model for the publicity photo shoot being done in the 5th floor play room. She said yes, of course - took a bit of the sting out of missing school pix tomorrow. After I signed the releases, we carried her down to the room to play. She was a little ham. The photographer had to keep telling her to ignore him and just play with the specialist. She couldnt help turning and grinning at times, though. She also was able to walk a bunch more. She is still kind of hunched over and a bit unsteady, but its progress. After about an hour and a hundred pictures (coming soon to the Cook Childrens website and hopefully my email box) we took a quick trip back to the room before returning for a bit more play - and a visit from Pastor David! Then, Cate wanted to explore so the nurse got us a wheelchair and we set off to explore the shops and food court on the first floor. Unfortunately, we overdid it a bit. The bright fluorescent lights downstairs brought back quite a bit of head/eye pain, spiked a bit of a fever, and the afternoon overall wore her out. Once back in the room, she slept uneasily from 530 to 830. Unfortunately, that meant that she slept through a surprise visit from one of her old Montessori teachers, Ms. Kathryn. She did get to enjoy visits from Miss Tanya (the caretaker who helps us with Karen) and DjandAdrienne this morning. Were still fairly reliant on pain meds but getting better. And we need to manage her eye use - coloring in a book after her late nap brought pain back again. She hasnt eaten or drank quite enough today either but they arent overly concerned. The nurses think we should definitely get to go home tomorrow! Yahoo! Big thanks to church friends Cynthia, John and Judy for helping with Karen during the day and Patti for spending the night with K and Jeffrey so I could be here and Chris could work. Theres a light - shaded from Cates eyes, of course! - at the end of this tunnel. And thank you to all of our family and friends and even perfect strangers for keeping Cate in your thoughts and prayers.
