CatesGarden What is the Minimum and Maximum Compost Piles this Thermometer is Good For? youtube/watch?v=S9wcX78RkIU The Cate’s Garden brand thermometer has a long stem to accommodate the best size compost pile, which is generally about four feet by four feet. The thermometer stem only needs to be a little less than half that length, because what you’re looking for is the temperature of the pile near the middle. So 4X4 or 5X5 is a good size for this thermometer. You can also use the thermometer with a smaller pile, say, two feet by two feet. In that case, only insert the thermometer about halfway. These are only estimates – if you’re not using a bin or containment device, your pile may “spread out” a little. But again, what you’re looking for is the temperature near the core of the compost pile. Would you like a FREE eBook on composting?
