Cause & Effect An effect is what happens as a result of the cause. Of two related events, it’s the one that happens second or last. To determine the effect, ask the question What Happened? Because, as, since, etc., joins a clause expressing reason/cause. The cause-clause may be placed before or after the effect-clause. This is called a preposition, an adverbial or a subordinating conjunction, or an adverb clause. The children survived because they received help. (SVO) Because they received help, the children survived.(SVO) The children survived because of the help. (noun phrase) NB We usually use noun phrase(a phrase that contains noun or gerund but no verb) also with : owing to ,due to and because of , We can also mention the cause first then we tell what the result or the effect is using connectors (link words) like : consequently ,as a consequence ,as a result ,thus ,therefore ,thats why ....etc Examples : People helped. Consequently, the children survived. People helped. For this reason, the children survived. People helped; as a consequence, the children survived.
