Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10 Most of us are willing accomplices to us being taken hostages. We easily surrender to the demands of busyness. We pay good money to be enslaved by our electronic gadgets, our I-gods. Our schedules, our plans, all our urgent projects and activities, important meetings, must-see TV programs, our kids involvement in the most prestigious sports programs, they all conspire to keep our eyes earthbound. Earthbound perspective is what keeps us hostage to our world and our circumstances. To cease striving and know that I am God is to stop all our busyness long enough to climb up to the mountain of God and see things from His perspective. It is to take the time in worship and in prayer and in the Word so that we are ushered into Gods majesty and beauty. It is to be showered by His cascading grace. It is to daily drink from His mercies that are new every morning. It is to recount His great wonders and works so that our hearts are filled with awe and we respond in thanksgiving and praise. It is to dethrone ourselves so that we can experience the delight and pleasures and wholeness in the kingship of Jesus Christ. And through the lens of who God is we gain a proper perspective of life. What is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? (Psalm 8:4). Seeing God is what gives us perspective and order in our daily life. Seeing God is what gives us peace in the most turbulent of times. Seeing God is what gives us confidence in the present and hope for the future. Cease striving and know that I am God. Take time to see God and be refreshed. He will enlarge your heart so that you can enjoy Him more and more.
