Celebrating individuality as a libertarian Of course the system - TopicsExpress

Celebrating individuality as a libertarian Of course the system is important, but the system is very much shaped by individuals! The difference a leader can make is gigantic! Especially because such individuals come with their own set of cronies and associates, who generally share the same ideology. Individuals matter. Enormously! As Libertarians, thats at the core of our ideals. Take away Bill Gates, there is no Microsoft. Take away Steve Jobs, there is no Apple. There would have been businesses building computers and software, but they would have been completely different. Such leaders make choices that radically impact how the future will develop. If the most influential person in IT had been Niklaus Wirth rather than Bill Gates, the world of PCs would be so different as to be unrecognizable. He DID create his own PCs. He made totally different choices from IBM and Gates. He picked a much more powerful microprocessor, which had a fully orthogonal architecture, which would have had immense benefits for the development of software. It was already a 16-bit architecture that would have scaled transparently to 32 and 64+ bit architectures. His programming languages are readable AND efficient, avoiding 95% of all the common coding errors. Humanity would have saved billions of hours of wasted time. The exact same is true for political leaders: If Christoph Blocher had remained in charge of the Justice department of Switzerland, instead of being removed by a coup, organized by a traitor from his own party, we would still have the bank secrecy and the Swiss Franc would not be tied to the Euro. And naturally, there would be no automatic bank data exchange in the OECD, given that this decision could have been vetoed by any member. The decision to veto or not to veto was in the hands of the head of the justice department, i.e. Widmer-Schlumpf, who intentionally did NOT veto it, because she wanted to abolish the bank secrecy. If Blocher had been in charge, he would definitely have vetoed it. That ONE different in ONE department of the Swiss government has massive WORLDWIDE consequences! By Stefan Metzeler
