Central Coast Marlins maintained 4th place on the State Baseball League table with a 2-1 win over Cronulla on Wednesday night at Wattanobbi Oval, Wyong. Matt Smith drove in the first Marlins run with an RBI single in the 3rd inning. Josh Tippet provided the other run with a sacrifice fly ball scoring the other Marlins run in the 5th inning. The story of the night though would be pitching - and particularly the Marlins two 17 year-old arms Matthew Hudson and Keiran Johnston. Hudson started on the mound and dominated for 6 scoreless innings, whilst Johnston picked up the save. Marlins return to action against Cronulla again this Sunday at Baseball Park, Springfield. First grade starts at 230pm. ***** in other local baseball news *** Marlins players Craig Anderson, Mitch Dening and Boss Moanaroa will play for their Sydney Blue Sox in the Australian Baseball League preliminary final series this weekend. Sydney will take on the defending champion Canberra Cavalry in a best of three series . Anderson, the reigning ABL pitcher of the Year, will be the starting pitcher in game one. Dening and Moanaroa should both feature in all three games at left field and first base respectively. Game 1 is on Friday in Canberra, with games 2 and 3 if necessary, both in Sydney on Saturday and Sunday.
