Central govt staff, pensioners to get 10% extra dearness allowance The Union Cabinet on Friday approved a 10% increase in dearness allowance, which will benefit 50 lakh central government staff and 30 lakh pensioners. The increase will be applicable from July 1, which means the central government employees and pensioners will get a good lump sum ahead of the festival season. According to government numbers, there will be additional Rs 900 crore every month in the hands of central government employees and pensioners. "The Union Cabinet today approved the proposal to release an additional installment of DA to central government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners with effect from July 1 2013, in cash, at the rate of 10% increase over the existing rate of 80%," Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari told reporters here after the Union Cabinet meeting. The combined impact on the exchequer on account of both dearness allowance to existing employees and the dearness relief to the pensioners would be Rs 10,879.60 crore per annum and Rs 7,253.10 crore in the financial year 2013-14 (for eight months from July 2013 to February 2014), the government said. "The increase is in accordance with accepted formula based on the recommendations of the 6th Central Pay Commission," the statement added.
