Chamber News Feed: Bloomsbury, NJ: The SUV that rolled over on Route 78 west yesterday contained 57 pounds of marijuana, State Police said today. One package of the marijuana flew out the SUV window during the accident, said police, who estimate the approximate street value of the total package at $114,000. The two women who were in the SUV, one of whom was severely injured and remains hospitalized, are in custody. A 2002 white Mercury Mountaineer rolled over into the center grass median and struck the guardrail on July 29, with police and emergency workers responding around 12:56 p.m. Driver Paulette Murray, 48, of Brooklyn, N.Y., told police she failed to control the SUV after another car cut her off, authorities said. Murray suffered blood loss from an arm laceration and was airlifted to St. Luke’s hospital in Bethlehem, Pa. The front seat passenger, Pauline Douglas-Dawkins, 58, of Cambria Heights, N.Y., was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Items that had been inside the car before the accident were scattered at the scene, and the package of marijuana, police said, was lying where EMS and troopers were walking around. At the scene, troopers said they observed Douglas-Dawkins attempting to cover a damaged cardboard box with a blanket. The box contained a large package of marijuana with fabric softener inside to mask the smell, State Police said. After gaining a search warrant for the vehicle, police said they found additional packages. Douglas-Dawkins was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was held in the Hunterdon County Jail with bail set at $100,000. Murray, whose condition is unknown, remains hospitalized.
