Changes in how land is being used across the globe in the last 300 - TopicsExpress

Changes in how land is being used across the globe in the last 300 years are causing numerous climate impacts. Converting of land from natural vegetation to agriculture or pasturage releases carbon from vegetation and soils into the atmosphere. Deforested areas have a diminished capacity to act as a CO2 sink and so atmospheric CO2 concentrations increase. A new study published in the #opeaccess EGU journal, Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics, investigates how changes in land use like the ones described above, might influence not only carbon emissions but also the balance between incoming and outgoing radiation at the top of the atmosphere.
