Changing the World by Hailey Marie Helton My Christmas dinner - TopicsExpress

Changing the World by Hailey Marie Helton My Christmas dinner was a banquet of king crab and prime rib, what about you? I got new boots, new pants, fancy chocolates and a wonderful Christmas morning to wake up to. I am disease free; because I have the option to be vaccinated. I wear my muddy shoes in the house. I hardly ever finish a meal. I get to wake up healthy. For some kids my prior statements are not even imaginable; for some to even be healthy is too good to be true. That is why I have a journey and that is why you have a journey, it’s why humanity has a journey. That is why I support Our Journey Inc. a charity developed to further developing of the underdeveloped communities of our world. Maureen Ahern is a name, and this particular name belongs to a woman who walks this earth much like you and I. In 2003 I was 4 years of age and chances are I was sitting on my hi chair throwing my spaghetti at the cat. In 03, Maureen was jetting off to Kenya in search of her lifelong dream; giving someone a chance. Maureen had since as long as youth looked around her and saw not only what she had, but what others did not. Furthermore she decided that she would devote her standing life to assist the communities of our world who have little to nothing to their name. But who is it that actually benefits from your dollar? In fact the kids wish network is a United States charity that has a heartwarming mission, to give handicapped children an otherwise unreachable childhood experience. 127,000,000 109,000,000 are numbers, big ones to say the least. But what do those numbers mean what significance can they have? 127 million dollars is how much in donations the kids wish gets but 109 million is the cut that solicitors get. Not all charities are “nonprofit.” Our journey is a nonprofit organization; every cent donated to our journey is put into the life of a native Kenyan child in need. It is simple to be a difference in a child’s life with our journey. A $4.00 donation will purchase a chicken for a woman to start her own small business, $5.00 donation and 1 pair of shoes will make its way to a child in need. $13.00 donation buys 1 blanket for a child who has never owned one. A $50.00 donation and you can purchase 300 cabbages. $50.00 will also buy seeds and tools for a grandmother raising orphaned children can set her on her way to start a garden. For $54.00 you will provide an110 pound bag of beans $56.00 is a donation of 198 pounds of maize flour. Any donation made by you could desperately impact the life of a woman or child without a doubt. Our journeys mission is simple, to be the difference. But how can YOU be the difference? You can’t drive can you? Could you afford to go to a charity fundraiser that costs you your entire life’s savings? I know that I could not afford to do a fancy charity fundraiser; so how can I say that I have helped save 4 children through this program? It is so easy to donate to our journey you can do it in minutes. By going to ourjourneyinc.org and clicking the donate button you can choose to donate to a number of projects. The Projects are the blanket project, the shoes for Africa project, the Posho Mill Project and the alternative giving project. Each year Maureen and her team make a few special trips to Kenya each year to visit the communities that our journey supports. It’s one of my dreams now specifically after this project to someday accompany Maureen and her team on one of these trips. It’s crazy what this charity does for these communities just by sending them the bare necessities for survival; but they do so much more by taking the time to personally visit these people. Maureen goes above and beyond to give these people something most charities wont, love. By spending time with these communities that have been close to forgotten, our journey can accomplish any journey. I believe in our journeys mission and I plan to continue to support it. Even if I haven’t sparked enough interest in you to look into this cause I hope to have sparked another reaction. An understanding that you are not alone on this earth, that maybe it’s not so bad? To begin to see that even when you feel ignored or forgotten or even just plain sad about an obstacle you face; there is a child who is forgotten and ignored by our society. That is why we have a journey.
