Chapter 5 I was a virgin Episode 37 Talking to Luyanda got her thinking about him a lot. She missed him and wished she could be able to go to Durban or for him to go to Joburg. But they did not have that kind of money as they were both not working. She fell asleep and it was on Sunday, Nokuthula came back. As usual Thulas had a lot of stories to tell about the time she was in her holidays. Her boyfriend from back home got another girl pregnant and so Nokuthula broke up with him. She mentioned that she did not care much about him. She had two guys in Joburg to choose from. Her other boyfriend and Vinnie (Thabo’s friend). “You and Vinnie? Since when?” Unathi asked without thinking. “Since that day on the bash, didn’t you see us smooching outside? Did you think you were the only one who got kisses?” Nokuthula went on and on. Unathi reminded her that Vinnie had a girlfriend. Nokuthula told her that you do not get a man from trees. Unathi could not talk much because she was sort of afraid of Nokuthula. Within herself she was shocked. Nokuthula kissed another girl’s boyfriend while the girl was right there. What kind of a person does that? Anyway they spoke about other stuff and got ready for Monday. On Monday Unathi went to school and saw Thabo. Just as she saw him the memories of the kiss came to her mind and they were as clear as if it had just happened a minute ago. She went and stood next to him before they went into class, she did that almost everyday since Thabo was one person whom she happened to be close to compared to all the other students. Some people even thought they were a couple. They stood there talking with other students, Unathi was unable to keep up with the convo as she was busy thinking about the kiss and how she would love to do it again. “Hey wena Mxhosa (hey you Xhosa) where are you?” One of the students said to her as he was poking Unathi. Other students liked calling her MXhosa as she was the only Xhosa in most of her classes (if not all) it did not offend her, she was used to it. “Ai wena leave me alone” she responded. “And why are you looking at Tbose like that? What are the two of you doing?” another student commented. “Plus they were both back on Saturday while the rest of us only came back yesterday” Another one added. All those that were standing with them started teasing Thabo and Unathi and forcing them to admit that they were a couple. Thabo just laughed it off. Unathi was really shy and she hated to be teased like that. So she could not say anything. Then they all went into class. “Let’s go listen to my Westlife collection when we finish our classes today, I am sure you will love it” Thabo said after their first class. Unathi did not object. Indeed when all the classes were finished the two of them went to Thabo’s room. Thabo played the Westilife. Unathi really loved it and she was impressed “I should really get a cd player so that I can borrow some of your cd’s. I love this music” She said as she was enjoying and singing along to some of the songs. “I knew you would love it” Thabo said, sounding pleased with himself. Unathi wished that they would kiss, but another part of her wished not. Then suddenly she thought about all those times people would tell her about Luyanda having other girls that she never asked about. Then Unathi thought Luyanda would never find out if she had another boyfriend. He was in Durban, she was in Joburg, who would tell him? She was not going to stop loving him and she would enjoy the kisses from Thabo. It would be like having her bread buttered on both sides and no one would get hurt, seriously! Eventually Thabo did kiss her and she kissed back. Thabo asked her what she thought was going to happen next between them. Unathi did not say anything, she just shrugged her shoulders. They continued listening to music in silence until Unathi decided that she had to go before it became too late. So she went to her flat. That night she got a graphic sms from Thabo that was a Teddy bear holding a heart. Of cause it was not appearing correctly on her A35 and she had to forward it to Nokuthula who was using an 1100 while Thabo was using a 2300. Unathi was charmed by that sms and she could not stop thinking about Thabo. She responded to the sms saying “That is so cute” she did not want to say anything extreme and end up getting ahead of herself. According to her Thabo was now her boyfriend but she was not sure if that is what he thought. For all she knew he could still be doing his experiments.
