The success depends on how successful we are able to get that running game going. Check out this tweet from Christopher Hansen yesterday: So the addition of DJ Fluker on the right side and Jeromey Clary at guard should boost up that running attack. It actually makes a ton of sense that our record has ranked the same as our rank in rushing yards. The league has turned into a quarterback friendly league, but the running game is still important. We still need to control the time of possession in games and still impose our will on defenses. The offensive line loves the running game. They get to attack and beat on defenders. Ryan Mathews has the potential to be a Pro Bowl back. He has the skills to be that guy. If we can lean on him a little more and take some of the pressure off of Philip Rivers, then we could be in for a good season. We lost 5 games last year after having the lead at halftime. If we could have relied on that running game a little more, then we might have been able to pull a couple of those games off. We should have gotten the win against the Broncos and should have gotten the win against the Saints. We have to be able to run that football!
