Charles I was a remarkable leader and I highly suggest looking - TopicsExpress

Charles I was a remarkable leader and I highly suggest looking into all of his accomplishments, but I feel I should give a little background information for context of the video. (as in all the pictures) Charles was King of the Franks and later King of Italy after defeating the Lombards. He came to power after his father Pepin the Short ended the Merovingian dynasty and established the Carolingien, and the suspicious death of his brother Carloman. Charles was able to reunite most of Western Europe (became king in 768) and ushered in a era of education, church and cultural reforms. He was some what of a religious zealot of Christianity, issuing penalty of death to non-conformers or pagans: 782 Saxon (Northern Europeans) pagans rebelled against conversion resulting in 4,500 captive Saxons being massacred (which was named the Bloody Verdict of Verdun) He was crowned Emperor of the Romans on Christmas day 800ce. (great stories around the coronation you should check out)
