Charm was diagnosed this Monday with axial osteosarcoma - a cancerous tumor on his skull that has eaten through the bone and is pressing on the temporal region of his brain. We have been given several options for treatment that range from intense radiation, surgery, chemo (not stand alone chemo, only with the other conventional options) to palliative (home care). We are using and will continue to use natural medicine. The University of Florida Small Animal Hospital is monitoring his condition and is the one to make the diagnosis and recommend the treatments. The Integrative Medicine (natural and more gentle) department is working with him as well on diet and supplements. We must decide by early next week the full treatment option, though. Time is of the essence and though he has good days, he continues to get more painful as well. We love Charm more than anything. We must weigh all of our options carefully and pick the best one for him. He has many strong points and may be a good candidate for the more intense treatments. They say the cancer will almost certainly get him in the end but if we follow a RT/Surgical route, it will most likely be from spreading later on. This is said to be far less painful a condition to monitor. In any case, we will most likely have to have him put to sleep at some point, maybe soon, maybe later on down the road if we are all very fortunate. Miracles can still happen but his life is in our hands and I am desperate to make the right choice. This is the hardest thing I have gone through. Charm is my everything. Please, if you dont mind, send prayers and good energy to him. He is amazing and wonderful, sweet and patient and needs the love. Thank you very much.
