Check out this powerful & motivating poem by Youth Speaks own Natasha Huey & Gabriel Cortez performed for an audience of 16,000 young people and educators at We Day California. We Day is an event that launches a year of local and global action led by youth. They shared the stage with celebrities and speakers that included Martin Luther King III, Laila Ali, Orlando Bloom, Selena Gomez, Seth Rogan, Martin Sheen, J. Cole, and Big Sean. Its not fair to assume that everyone can pull themselves up by their own bootstraps. In college, I learned not everyone has equal access to boot straps. That many of us are told to pull ourselves up by boots we cant even afford in the first place.
