Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says his side are in control of our destiny after going top of UEFA Champions League Group G with a 1-0 away victory against Sporting Lisbon. After Diego Costa and Andre Schurrle had passed up scoring opportunities during an early spell of Chelsea domination, Nemanja Matic put the visitors in front when he sent a looping header over goalkeeper Rui Patricio from Cesc Fabregass free-kick. Patricio, who made a number of fine stops in the opening period, thwarted Oscar and Mohamed Salah after the break, while former Manchester United winger Nani fired just wide from distance as the Blues held on for victory. The result leaves Chelsea on four points from two matches, having drawn their first match at home to Schalke, and they next face back-to-back matches against Slovenian side NK Maribor, who drew 1-1 with the German club on Tuesday. Its three points, Mourinho told chelseafc. This is not a knockout where goals are fundamental, this is points. We lost two points at home, we recovered that and because of the other draw we are in a position where I would not say we are comfortable but we can control our destiny. Our next two matches are against Maribor. If we get six points we will go to 10, job done. Now we just have to focus on beating Maribor which I believe will not be easy because to draw in Germany means something. The match also saw long-serving centre-back John Terry make his 100th Champions League appearance. The veteran defender, who helped the Blues win the competition in 2012, earned special praise from his manager. The club of 100 games in the Champions League is a restricted one, said Mourinho. Only a very few have done it for the same club. He was probably not captain for all 100 but surely in at least 90 of them. He is a historic player and he will go down in the history of the club. Chelsea must now gather themselves for the visit of Arsenal in the Barclays Premier League on Sunday.
