Cherry Bros. brass token. The pictures show the front and back of a brass token once used in Cherry Bros. Brewery. It is an old piece of New Ross memorabilia and a glimpse of an era now gone. This brass token was found by a fisherman who dredged it up from the Barrow in one of his nets. A relative of mine wrote a note about the brass token. It goes as follows In bygone days, Cherry Bros. Brewery was a thriving concern which employed many local men and boys from the town. A by-product of the brewing process was a fragrant mash of grain which was much in demand by farmers as a stock feed. A familiar sight then were a string of farm carts arriving at the Creywell Brewery to buy and cart off the steaming grain home. The customer first paid at the office for his order and was given the brass token. The token was then presented to the man in charge of the measuring out and loading of the carts. The old employee for years whom tallied the loads was Johnnie Flanagan of the Bullawn
