Chidlow firefighters were active yesterday evening at Bullsbrook. The fire had reduced everything on, or close to the ground, to ashes. The only evidence of dead branches once lying on the ground were white, irregular branch-like breaks in the dark ash that covered the ground everywhere else. (See image 1. Josh W. at the end of the hose.) The coastal plain banksia woodland in which we were operating was also one that is particularly favourable for ground fires (roots burning underground). These present dangers for fire spread, so require close attention; this they did receive from both crews. (Image 2 thanks to Kevin).
