Child Abuse is NOT new! (Neither are the subtle effects from it.) Our grandparents and parents may gloat about how THEY discplined us back then, but if it were filmed and posted on social media, it would look just as violent and cruel as in this video. The profanity was also there. What I noticed in the video is that the mother tried to hit her daughter ONLY on the leg or butt with the shovel. A shovel has a smooth, flat surface. By contrast, an extension cord may do far more damage than that shovel if the target areas are legs and butt. (Broom handles and extension cords were popular choices of ol school parenting. This mother is looked upon as a bad abusive parent. Thats the reaction of the media, college-educated media, the Child Protection media. As I stated at the outset, had many of OUR parents and grandparents been filmed and posted via Social Media, they, too, would be deemed abusive parents. The TRUTH is--THEY WERE! So why do they consider themselves good parents? One reason, and perhaps, the primary reason is that their children graduated from high school and graduated from college. No matter how screwed up they may be emotionally and in a relationship, no matter how closed-minded and judgmental they may grow up to be, no matter whom they may harm or take advantage of, the fact that they went to college validates the parents. They were good parents who raised good children. So perhaps, this mother should not be punished. Like OUR parents and grandparents, she probably has good intentions. After all, if the girl in the video grows up to be a college graduate, and then a doctor, will her mother then be looked upon as a bad parent? Probably NOT! After all, dont those of us with college degrees, THINK we turned out all right (even though, many of the comments on Facebook dont validate that claim)? Many of the problems and behaviors of this younger generation--are the by-product of previous generations. Gbj
