Children learn their values early in life. Einstein said, Common - TopicsExpress

Children learn their values early in life. Einstein said, Common Sense is the prejudices we acquire before the age of 18. They learn them not by the words that are spoken to them as platitudes but by watching how their parents, other family members, and caregivers act. How many times have parents said, Do as I say, not as I do! It is the time of year when we will begin to see an ever increasing number of posts admonishing us to Keep Christ in Christmas! I want to reflect a while and challenge each of you to give this some thought. What does it mean to Keep Christ in Christmas? Does it mean foregoing all commercial spending for presents, to not put up secular decorations, or read stories of Santa Claus? Does it mean standing on the street corner proclaiming the Good News of a Savior for the world or giving a large portion of our money to the poor? Historical researchers place the birth of Christ in all different times of the year. The Jews of Jesus day did not celebrate the anniversary of ones birth. It was considered a pagan Roman tradition to do so. This may be why the day, month, or ever the year of Jesus birth is not mentioned in any of the Gospels. We are able to accurately calculate the time of his death, but not his birth. Many of us have become sickened and disgusted with the commercialism and advertising that lure people to spend large, sometimes budget busting sums, on items for children, relatives, or others that are forgotten in only a few days. How does one Keep Christ in Christmas with all the other temptations? I would submit that to Keep Christ in Christmas one live the annunciation of the angels to the shepherds found in Luke 2:14. Glory to God in the Highest and on Earth peace and good will to all men! This simple sentence has all the elements of the words of Jesus when asked what was the greatest commandment. He said, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment, and the second one is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
