Child’s eye versus a Parent’s eye Carbon – my older dog, - TopicsExpress

Child’s eye versus a Parent’s eye Carbon – my older dog, has always been a healthy one (that is till recently), and Copper – the younger - the sickly one. Was it this that resulted in me sneaking him a few extra treats, or spending more time with him – I was not sure – that is till recently. With Carbon’s health taking a beating last couple of days – I have found myself spending most of my awake moments with him. Petting him, cleaning him, giving him fluids and trying to feed him – till Deepti reminded me – that I have another dog. Deepti calls this – a health tax… ignoring one who is healthy… As a child, I would always be upset at my mother for taking special interest on my other brothers. I would sometime catch her feeding something to them – and experience a great pain of betrayal and suspicion. I remember having asked her quite a few times – are you sure you are my mother – and not my step mother? Thinking back – I was always the healthiest of the four – chubby with fat cheeks, I would gobble up anything and everything kept in front of me, and never needed a second invitation (not that I waited for the first!) Never understood why my mother would not worry about me… that is till recently… Till, as a parent now, I understand the concept of a health tax… :)
