China has volunteered 500 soldiers for the UN Mali forces. About - TopicsExpress

China has volunteered 500 soldiers for the UN Mali forces. About one third will be engineers. There are many valuable natural resources in the African continent including uranium. Upon French withdrawal from Mali, the UN has mandated to have 12,000 troops in Mali. Currently about half that force has been pledged. I wonder how easy it would be for one to command such a variety of soldiers in a battle against Jihadist. (That idea brings to mind the Black Hawk Down episode). Previously in Africa, China also has provided a small number of troops for use the Sudan, Darfur, Liberia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Elsewhere China also has about 300 troops in Lebanon and has withdrawn its troops from Cambodia. These are generally not frontline troops but support personnel. .
