Chinese solar manufacturer ReneSola Ltd. announced it has restarted manufacturing activity at its polysilicon factory in Sichuan, China. According to the company, the factory was halted in November 2012 to enable the upgrade of its furnaces and hydrochlorination technology and to raise its capacity to 10,000 MT. The company said that the upgrading of the factory has been developed with two new proprietary technologies and that it will enable to reduce its energy costs to less than 100 kWh per kg, compared to 145 kWh per kg before the upgrades. Renesola expects to produce approximately 1,800 to 2,000 MT in the third quarter 2013, up from 1,176 MT in the same quarter of 2012. Furthermore, the company claims that in the next quarter it will be able to produce at a cost of approximately $18 per kg, while in the third quarter of 2012, the cost of production was of $24 per kg. Renesola’s CEO, Xianshou Li, said that the factory upgrading will give the company an advantage over competitors and that it will help it »to deliver positive results to shareholders«.
