Chip Taylor - New CD Reviews airplaydirect/music/chiptaylortrilogy/ 9/10 - Uncut Magazine, Peter Watts Brilliant triple-album. Chip Taylor has been turning out superb country/folk albums for decades but this could be his late masterpiece. He holds court and maintains focus across many minutes of absorbing music. Four Stars - Mojo Magazine Sprawling and reflective, this intimate triple-album set is an ebbing, flowing, crowning glory to a storied career. CD of the Month - Five Stars - Country Music People, Paul Riley The Little Prayers Trilogy is a brave, daring challenging work by an important songwriter. Those who get it will find something to admire, a rich vein of thought-provoking tracks and music of great value. Not like any other release this year. Anyone who likes the idea of something with real depth, which is rare these days, should try Chip Taylors masterpiece. Four Stars! - Andy Gill, The Independent Little Prayers is terrific triple-album of careworn social commentaries and romantic entreaties. Its jail songs and political-prisoner narratives wield a powerful punch of conscience. Taylor has become the Americana equivalent of Leonard Cohen. Jeff Burger - No Depression Chip Taylor remains best known for writing a string of classic old pop hits, among them “Wild Thing” (the Troggs, Jimi Hendrix) and “Angel of the Morning” (Merrilee Rush, Juice Newton). But his finest work has come in recent years. During the last decade, he teamed with Texas singer and fiddle player Carrie Rodriguez for a series of must-hear country/folk/Americana albums, and now he’s back with The Little Prayers Trilogy. Like Springsteen’s Nebraska, which its music in some ways recalls, this solo set was originally intended as a series of demos for an album that would later be recorded by a full band. But the demos sounded right to Taylor and his producer, so he wound up releasing them with only slight embellishments along with a variety of other performances on this sprawling 30-track, three-CD set. These songs demand a lot from the listener, but those who pay careful attention will be well rewarded.
