Chippenham RFC vs RWBRFC U13 by Caroline Hughes-Miles A Tough Game! Floodlit game at Chippenham RFC tonight and with only 4 of our 23 players unavailable we hoped we would have plenty of game time for everyone ... the game was a tough one with Chippenham scoring the first try after some good defence from Bassett but eventually they got through the line. Converted easily. In the first quarter a second try was conceded and again converted and we had our first injury with Shimmy getting kicked in the head but managed to play on. Second quarter we soon had another injury with Jack Jones going down and unfortunately coming off and then a head injury for GUY HARMER which saw him on the ground for a short while but luckily on his feet again. A 3rd and then subsequent fourth try from Chippenham made the score 26-0 and at the end of the second half this was a reasonable score to try to achieve.... Positive words and encouragement from Dean and Paul helped though and the third quarter saw the Bassett side we know and love fight back. Only one more try was conceded in the third quarter making Chippenhams final score 33 points but with Bassett fighting back we saw a brilliant try scored by GEORGE STEPHENS from a breakthrough and a sprint down the pitch. Unfortunately, due to Chippenham charging too soon our conversion had to be taken twice and didnt quite go through the posts for Tom Pitman. Our second try was scored by Maikeli Volavola when our defence stopped a kick from behind the try line which was picked up by Mikaeli and taken over the line. Louis H-M took this conversion and scored making our score 12 points. Heads were really up by this point and with our fighting spirit continuing George scored a second try after some fantastic support and Louis converted again. Chippenham seemed close to scoring again towards the end of the first quarter but our defence was too strong and at the final whistle the score was 33 points to Chippenham and 19 to RWB. Great work guys. Well Done!
