#ChiwestNews All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, yesterday formally ratified the appointment of Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano, as party leader and chairman of its Board of Trustees, BoT. It also yesterday formally ratified the adoption of President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s candidate for the 2015 presidential election, just as its constitution was amended, extending the tenure of its National Chairman for three months and expunging the name of Chief Chekwas Okorie from all its record. Ratification of Obiano’s appointment as party leader and BoT chairman as well as amendment of the party’s constitution, changing its motto and extending the tenure of incumbent National Chairman, were all made at APGA Special National Convention held at the Women Development Centre in Awka, the state capital. It will be recalled that those who control APGA had sometime in September this year appointed Governor Obiano as its leader and BoT chairman, as part of moves to reposition the party, preparatory to the 2015 general elections. The Special National Convention, which was attended by delegates drawn from many of the 36 states of the federation, witnessed key speeches delivered by Chief Victor Umeh and Governor Obiano and attended by key gubernatorial candidates of the party, drawn from Zamfara, Abia, Enugu and Imo states, among others. Amendment of APGA’s Constitution, ratification of Obiano BoT chair and party leader as well as the formal adoption of Jonathan as APGA presidential candidate were effected vide motions moved by members of Anambra State House of Assembly, led by the Majority Leader, Hon. Harford Oseke and all were unanimously seconded and approved subsequently. Speaking during the ceremony, APGA National Chairman, Chief Umeh, who expressed joy with the leadership qualities of Obiano and Jonathan, said the primaries recently conducted by APGA have afforded it the opportunity to field quality candidates for the elections billed for next year. Umeh stated that Jonathan is APGA’s sole candidate for the 2015 presidential election, adding that they are optimistic that APGA will win elections next year. Obiano thanked APGA leaders for the confidence reposed in him, promising that he will do his best to lift APGA to greater heights and improve its fortunes in the coming years. APGA National Secretary, Alhaji Sani Shinkafi, who led Zamfara State delegates was full of happiness when he spoke, commending Obiano for his contributions to the party. Source: Anambra State Report
