Christian ethics have a basis (the Word of God, put together over - TopicsExpress

Christian ethics have a basis (the Word of God, put together over thousands of years yet unified in theme) whereas secular ethics rely on reason (which, think about it--have you ever done anything wrong and not have had a reason for thinking it was right at the time?) and popular opinion (which can be influenced by the Hitlers of the times, or the media). As for the argument that secular ethics take into account what is detrimental to society, there has to be a basis for determining what is detrimental. Again, that basis is reason and popular opinion, which both can fluctuate. The first takes into consideration and gives primary importance to the teachings of Christ in making decisions and the second would not have those teachings as the primary factor.
