Christianity is not a set of rules/regulations or some type of formula that we are to keep...this is religion…this is legalism that says, “You must modify your behavior in order to win our approval.” Religion teaches that a person should, ought, & must, & when a person doesnt, the people who set up these rules end up exercising an air toward that religious follower of them being “less than” b/c that person didnt live up to their- to “God’s standards.” Soon, a person finds themselves repressed, stifled, confused about scripture & who God is—just plain confused about a lot of things; fearful, angry at God for feeling like they have to live up to impossible demands, discouraged, doubtful of his existence, emotionally burned out, & totally hating anything to do with the mention of Jesus’ name/ and or ends up distant from God because in the midst of that, they were never able to develop a life changing relationship with God- the way He had intended for all his creation. Dr. Stanley explains in When we feel burned out part 1, why Christianity is not a formula but in fact completely Pharasee-istic- & the complete opposite of the message of the Gospel, & its causing burn out in most religious folks. God doesnt want anyone living in legalism; it’s bondage- it’s a burden, and didnt Jesus tell us His burden is light? Yes, it is, and we are never able to live fully as the Holy Spirit intends for us; Working, trying, struggling, & striving to be good & in pursuing God actually Grieves the Holy Spirit (Galatians) --(((& that was Jesus’ main point as he continuously revealed & stumped the Religious Pharisee’s--who worked diligently to try & trip him up with every question/situation. Of course, the Religious Pharisee’s soon after crucified Jesus & then after, to suppress the spreading of the Gospel, they set up various Religious institutions—using Jesus’ name- but not truly worshiping him, but rather pagan God’s- or establishing other pagan God’s associated with other man made religions & ….this is an entirely other MIND BLOWING historical topic & suitable for another day (if curious, read the testimony of Dr. Alberto Rivera, ex- Catholic priest who knew of the most secretive inner workings of the Catholic Church…he of course isnt the only one with testimony’s against religious institutions, & discernment is key, but it is important to take a real 360 look at things… Now, I obviously cannot say whether everything in Rivera’s testimony is true, although, I really can’t imagine is not being true given the history of Catholicism, other religions/ faith, & biblical facts, so I wasnt surprised at all to read what I did. My comments & thoughts on Religion are not meant to offend any friends associated with Catholicism/ other religions- as I have noticed certain friends who are religious have been icy toward my posts- but no hard feelings on my end at least, b/c any coldness aimed at me is based on a misunderstanding of who I am & and no actual foreknowledge of my personal experiences; I am only interested in spreading information that I am passionate about to encourage awareness & open minds regarding Religious institutions that ultimately keep a believer/ non-believer in bondage.)))-- My point after all this- don’t go chasing God by chasing after Religion & don’t run from God because of your observations/ personal experiences with Religion either; …Human actions & operations are not the ways of Jesus, Religion is a set of rules, but Jesus is a relationship that involves new eyes, new hearts, new minds, & new lives. intouch.org/broadcast/today-on-radio
