Christians historically observed the discipline of fasting or abstinence at various times each year. Fasting is the reduction of ones intake of food, while abstinence refers to refraining from meat (or another type of food). We are obliged by God to perform some penance for our sins. These acts of penance are both personal and corporeal. The purpose of fasting is spiritual focus, self-discipline, imitation of Christ, and performing penance. Fasting on the side of food becomes meaningless if you do not use that money for food or meat on Fridays to help someone in need. Do not or keep the food to eat or use it another day. I am suggesting this, for you who is fasting and praying, is it possible for us to fast a lunch or meat on Friday. Is it possible now that we are going to visit the Joy Town Spina Bifida children on 23rd March 2014 to make a small donation as a way of alms giving this year? Can we be challenged during this time of Lent to do the Almsgiving to our brothers and sisters through pampers.; Remember it is not how much you give but how you do it. God bless you as you join us in this very noble course.
