Christmas! Here it is again. Every Christmas I ponder what it is - TopicsExpress

Christmas! Here it is again. Every Christmas I ponder what it is all about. This year I wrote myself a letter to make sure I had it all down. I’ll share it with you. Dear Glenn, Christmas is different this year for you. You are not working and so you have to guard your retirement a little closer, be a little tighter with the wallet but does that have anything to do with Christmas? Isn’t Christmas the time of year you contemplate the birth of Jesus and what that means to you? The Wise Men brought Jesus presents, not every child, friend, family member they had so isn’t it your responsibility, no matter the cost, to bring a gift to Jesus to celebrate his birthday? What do you buy a God that has everything? What does he need? Time. The eternal Father needs time. My time. This gift I bring him this year is my time. I’ll give up some of my time to show love to a stranger. I’ll give up some of my time to collect food for the less fortunate, I’ll give up some of my time in prayer for others. I’ll give time to be still and listen for His guidance. I’ll take the time to smile, to love, to shake a hand, to tell someone how special they are, to lift up the pressed down and to assist the disabled. Strange enough that when I give Jesus my time, I find I have more. When I give love I feel loved, when I lift up, I am lifted. This is God’s birthday gift to me because we don’t just celebrate the birth of Jesus on December 25th but we recognize our own rebirth as children of God.
