Christmas time is Weihnachtsmarkt“ time! We want to introduce you to our very nice german tradition. When its cold outside, the best thing you can do is to go outside wrapped up in a cozy coat and have some hot Glühwein and take a look at the colorful Christmasstands. They sell clothes, beautiful christmas decorations and of course: lots of food! Whether you like sweet or salty, fruity or chocolatey - you will always find something to eat for sure. But have you ever thought about, why the germans have this tradition? Why was the christmas market invented? Well, in the 14th century before Christmas, there was the custom to give artisans (such as basket makers, toy makers or confectioners) the permission to build a stand on the marketplace. They could sell their products for Christmas. The foundation stone for the Christmas markets were set and year after year, this custom spread and it became a tradition of the Christmas markets. From the beginning on people went to the markets to have their pleasure and so in addition to toys and useful things, they starting selling food as well: roasted chestnuts, almonds and other nuts were offered. Our team members Eva Schmidt and Demi Geiger allready enjoyed their time on the Heidelberger Christmas market :-). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Have you been to the Christmas market yet?
