Church Establishes Cassava Farm, Gari Industry in Ipetu-Ijesa, Ikeji Communities Written by Tunde Oyekola Friday, 12 July 2013 00:00 Diocese of Osun North East of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has established a farm and a Gari processing Industry to create employment for its members in the area, the Diocesan Bishop, Rt Rev Joseph Folorunso Olusola has said. Speaking at a press conference to herald the 2013 Synod of the Diocese at Ipetu-Ijesa in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State, Right Rev Olusola said that while the farm was sited at Ikeji-Arakeji in the diocese, the gari processing industry was located in Ipetu-Ijesa. Rev. Olusola also said that the four-year-old diocese also established an hospital in Ipetu-Ijesa to provide medical care for the people. The bishop who disclosed that the Diocese had 40 people in its employment said that the farm would supply the gari industry with cassava which was the major raw material for the industry. The Diocese which was inaugurated on November 15, 2009 by the then Primate of the Church, Most Reverend Peter Jasper Akinola had its headquarters in Ipetu-Ijesa, while others in the Diocese included Ikeji-Arakeji, Ikeji-Ile, Dagbaja, Apoti, Owena, Orisunmibare, among others. Speaking on how the democratic process in the country could be improved, Bishop Olusola advised the Federal Government to see to the early implementation of Justice Mohammed Uwais reports on Electoral Reforms to help in laying a solid foundation for the electoral process in the nation. The bishop stressed that it was time Nigerians imbibe a healthy political culture after more than 50 years of existence as a nation. “We enjoin well-meaning Nigerians to demand for a new voters register which would guarantee restoration of confidence in the ballot and ensures a ‘one man, one vote’. Anti -democratic attitudes like political thuggery, rigging, violence, politics of bitterness and acrimony leading to politically motivated assassinations currently prevalent on the nation’s political landscape should be stopped and a new political orientation that will ensure the success of the forthcoming electoral process should be enthroned,” he said. Bishop Olusola also stated that the easiest strategy to get all arms of government sanitized and also stop the politicians’ of ‘do or die affairs’ culture is to make political and elective offices financially less attractive. “It is the best way to separate the wolf from the rest of the flock, anybody desirous of going into public office should do so at his/her own expense and not become parasitic by emptying the government’s treasury. “If there are no longer over bloated financial rewards for such positions, there will be little do-or-die attitude to attend the conduct of elections in Nigeria, sure the very few people who will signify intention to rule would be those who are genuinely desirous of public service,” he said. He also blamed the high level of moral decadence among the youths on the take over of missionary schools by government, adding that the take over of missionary schools by the government made morals decline day by day which made “us have a generation that do not know God.” The 2013 synod included pre-synod revival, opening service, Bishop’s charge and thanksgiving service A former Director of Protocol in the presidency, Chief Niran Oni who is the chairman of the committee for the program described Bishop Olusola as a young, visionary, and dynamic leader who has got the spiritual lives of church members rejuvenated through his uncommon evangelism efforts.
