City Council Participatory Budgeting & Bronx Park East: A match - TopicsExpress

City Council Participatory Budgeting & Bronx Park East: A match made in Heaven. Walking through Pelham Bay park is always educational and thought-provoking. This lovely park seems like the standard of what a well-rounded Park should be: - A massive, forward-thinking playground that incorporates music into the play equipment, with musical drums and foot-step xylophones - A simple, easy-to-maintain dog run, with no water source (which Parks told me is needed for one, and can drive the cost of building one WAY up). - A massive running track that surrounds a beautiful soccer/football field, with what is seemingly a Yoga platform past the goal post. - Clearly posted signs saying where barbecuing is and isnt allowed. All this doesnt mean the park is without its trouble-makers, but it is certainly the standard-bearer for a well-rounded playspace. This year, our Councilman Ritchie Torres will be one of a few Council Members city-wide taking part in Participatory Budgeting, a process which allows WE the people to decide what is funded. And after speaking with people in the Allerton/Pelham Parkway community for over 2 years, the answer is clear: WE NEED TO TRANSFORM BRONX PARK EAST INTO THE STANDARD-BEARER THAT PELHAM BAY PARK IS. And perhaps make it even better. This is your call to action folks. Once you see the Participatory Budgeting Town Hall meetings posted on this page, PUT THEM ON YOUR CALENDAR. And attend, to be a part of the effort to revive our park. Our Bronx Park East. Our Waring Playground.
