City Walk Groundbreaking Gives First Whole Foods grocery store ST. LOUIS – Today Mayor Francis G. Slay, Bruce Mills, Comptroller Darlene Green, development officials and Mills Properties execs broke ground at City Walk, a mixed-use development in the Central West End that will include the first Whole Foods grocery store located in the City at Euclid and West Pine. I even got a shout-out (@gentrytrotter) from Whole Foods on my news tweet earlier today. Whole Foods will occupy 30,000 square feet on the first floor of City Walk, with approximately 176 apartments on the upper six floors, a 445-space parking garage, and a 4,300-square-foot fitness center. Infrastructure such as new streetlights, wider sidewalks, rain gardens, and underground utilities will be integrated into improvement plans for both the Euclid and West Pine frontages. City Walk is expected to create 158 new permanent jobs. Total project cost is $70 million, with $10 million in financing provided by the City of St. Louis Tax Increment Financing (TIF). The project is expected to be completed in 2015.
