City centre chief Pat Karney is to ask for talks with a city centre nightspot accused of turning a pregnant woman away for wearing flat shows. Abby Ashcroft, who is eight months pregnant, told the M.E.N how she broke down in tears after door staff at Club Liv, on Peter Street, off Deansgate, turned her away while she was out on a hen party. Abby, 28, who had travelled from Durham and was on the guest list of the Manchester city centre venue, along with nine other hens. She said after explaining she couldn’t wear heels because she was heavily pregnant, a female member of staff replied: “Fortunately, when I was pregnant I was still able to wear heels. You can’t come in.” Coun Karney, the town hall’s city centre spokesman, said the ‘peculiar’ incident had given a bad impression of Manchester and he wanted to clarify the situation with the bar’s owners.
