City residents warned against insecurity, theft .... Dar es Salaam Special Zone Commander, Mr Suleiman Kova allayed fears among the residents as he assured that the police in the city would ensure that security is maintained during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. Residents of Dar es Salaam have been warned to be careful when they visit some parts of the main commercial city owing to deteriorating security. A private security company, Knight Support, has issued a public statement, detailing falling safety in some Dar es Salaam spots. Though he did not concur with the report, the Dar es Salaam Special Zone Commander, Mr Suleiman Kova, said people should indeed be careful with their safety as the nation approaches end of the year celebrations. A warning issued by Knit Support show that several parts of Dar es Salaam have increasingly become armed robbers’ centres of target, something which should worry the city dwellers. Armed with gun, pangas and sometimes large wooden sticks, groups of people have been using such spots to attack other people and rob them of their valuables. The report shows robbers have picked some popular entertainment joints as well as roads into their stations. According to the report, some of dangerous spots in Dar es Salaam have been named as Jangwani Beach area near the New Giraffe Hotel and the Belinda Hotel, Kigamboni South Beach, Ocean Road, African Road, Jangwani road at Kawe roundabout and car park area of the Furniture Centre along Nyerere Road. Mr Kova told The Citizen that they would take that report as a tip off. “We are working on it. For us we are regarding this report as a help in our duty to maintain security. The report cites only few areas but the Police Force is charged with security of entire city of Dar es Salaam whereby generally the crime has largely gone down as compared to the past,” he said. Mr Kova allayed fears among the residents as he assured that the police in the city would ensure that security is maintained during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. He said with the current system of community policing, the law enforcers will cooperate with all stakeholders in maintaining public security. (Source: The Citizen)
