Civil society groups to assess Jonathan’s Administration Posted by admin on June 30, 2013 // Leave Your CommentPresident Goodluck JonathanNigeria,Civil society groups in Nigeria, under the aegis of Independent Service Delivery Monitoring Group (ISDMG), have offered to implement an independent assessment of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration since its inception on May 29, 2011 following a recent challenge to that effect by the president. In a statement issued in Abuja by ISDMG’s Executive Director, Dr Chima Amadi, the assessment will be done on Monday July 8, 2013 at Chrystal Hall, New Chelsea Hotel, Area 10, Abuja, using the benchmark of the current administration.Amadi said; “The Nigerian public in the last few weeks have been inundated with claims of “unusual” achievements by the administration of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan using the ongoing platform of the Ministerial Mid Term Report packaged by the administration through the Ministry of Information. The Mid Term Report by Ministers is following on the heels of the President’s presentation of his 2 year scorecard . While making his presentation, the President challenged Nigerians to develop a “marking scheme” through which his achievements and scorecard can be judged, however, since that challenge was made, the Civil Society is yet to pick the gauntlet therefore allowing the administration and its agents to rile Nigerians through the media with one sided claims of performance.“Consequently, the Independent Service Delivery Monitoring Group (Centre for Transparency Advocacy), has resolved to create a forum where Civil Society can engage and assess the claims of achievements of the administration using its own vaunted benchmarks. The strategy will be to critique the presentation of the various Ministries and see if the achievements so listed, corresponds with the realities on ground. The forum shall also ascertain if the activities of the administration during the period under review meets the yearnings and aspirations of the Nigerian people.”A self-assessment score card by ministers had given the presidency a pat on the back in terms of achievements, prompting the Federal Government to challenge Nigerians with contrary views to come up with their views. The civil society groups under the aegis of Independent Service Delivery Monitoring Group said its decision to embark on the project was spurred by perceived unresearched measure adopted by the Ministry of Information in arriving at its assessment of the administration. In the process, participating civil society groups are expected to x-ray the various reports presented by the administration on education, health, transportation (aviation, water and rail transportation) and agriculture in its first phase.Participants expected at the parley include, Executive Director, Centre for Advanced Social Science (CASS), Dr. Sofiri Joab-Peterside; Executive Director, International Press Centre (IPC), Mr. Lanre Arogundade; Convener, United Action for Democracy (UAD), Mr. Jaiye Gaskia; Coordinator, Community Action for Popular Participation (CAPP), Kyauta Iliya Giwa; and National Coordinator, Transition Monitoring Group (TMG), Hajiya Zainab Abdullahi Mohammed, among others.- See more at: iuhuru/civil-society-groups-assess-jonathans-administration/#sthash.cDt3zRzV.dpuf
