I wonder how these tall buildings in Dubai have such weak (mental) foundations. I reach Dubai International Airport and wish to get a transit visa because of the long layover. This is what happens: Me: I wish to get a transit visa because I have to collect my baggage and I cannot do that without a visa. Man at the Airport: Can i see your passport? Me: Sure. (After a brief pause) Man: I dont think you can get a visa. You are travelling alone and too young to get a transit visa. (Basic problem: I am an independent girl) Me: How does that relate to getting a visa? Can people like me not get their baggage and check back in. Man: Let me check. (He then takes my passport and flight ticket to another man and comes back after 15 mins) Me: Can I get a visa?? Man: Where would you be living? Me: I dont know. I have to contact my cousin and the wifi at the airport sucks. Man: You can live in a hotel right next to the airport. I can make some arrangements. (I call my cousin she doesnt answer the phone) Me: Okay! But again what about my visa. Man: I can get it done. (He starts the procedure. My cousin calls me back.) Man: I cannot cancel your reservation now. Me: I only need to let her know that I am fine. I never asked you to cancel the reservation. After all this, I finally get my visa done! This country constitutes of a bunch of male chauvinists. I wonder how women live here and cater to the needs of these chauvinists.
