Classical concert: Ani Batikian (violin) and Roland Roberts (piano) Date 14 Nov Organiser EBRD Location London Armenian violinist Ani Batikian and UK pianist Roland Roberts will take us on a colourful classical journey, with works by Mozart, Dvorak, Aram Khachaturian, Bartok, Baghdasaryan and Pablo de Sarasate. Ani Batikian entered the Yerevan State Conservatoire in Armenia as one of the youngest students ever to study there, and at the age of only 20 she received her postgraduate diploma with honours. In 2003 she received a full scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, graduating with a DipRAM for outstanding performance, a PGDip with distinction and LRAM, as well as the top prize for violin. She was also a student of Salvatore Accardo in Cremona, Italy. Ani has received numerous awards and prizes, including the Dewar Award. Ani has been broadcast on BBC Scotland Radio, and has given concerts in Edinburgh’s Usher Hall, Oxford’s Sheldonian Theatre and London’s St Martin-in-the-Fields, among others. She has performed as a soloist with Sinfonia Toronto, the City of Oxford Orchestra, the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia, the Naregatsi Baroque Orchestra, the Katrineholm Symphony Orchestra in Sweden, the Glasgow Chamber Orchestra and St James’ Orchestra in the UK. She recently recorded a CD of Armenian and virtuoso violin music, which is due to be released this year. Roland Roberts has enjoyed a wide-ranging career as a violinist, pianist, conductor and composer. He began playing the piano at age of six, and went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he was joint first study piano and violin. A Fulbright Scholarship then enabled further study in Chicago, USA. He has performed worldwide as a violinist, and as a pianist has performed chamber music and concerts with many different instrumentalists. He has also composed and arranged music for BBC Television and film, and recently wrote the score for a horror movie by Babaloo Films: Paper. Scissors. Stone. He has also written the music for his CD, An English Elegy, which he recorded with the City of Oxford Orchestra, with whom he has worked as Director for the last fourteen years. Please join us on Thursday 14 November at 19:00, in the EBRD Auditorium, with welcoming drinks from 18:00 in our foyer. The concert will last approximately 60 minutes with no interval. Admission is free, but prior email registration via EBRDevents@ebrd is essential. Please note that all guests are required to bring a form of ID with them and may be subject to random bag searches.
