Coach Cals press conference is below. Ill throw my two cents into it for those who care. If not, do check out Cals thoughts. Ole Miss played amazing and still lost. They have to feel good about their play but in the end we are still 14-0 and they took an L just like a 40 point beat down would have given them. Ive been saying all year the best recipe to beat these guys is to play small and hit a bunch of threes. They did that. Moody was amazing. Saw someone compare it to the IU game, I thought it was more like Downey at USC but either is fine...both were losses to unranked teams to our #1 and ended with crazy people court storming because they are mid majors... What playing three guards and relying on threes also does is it causes missed shots to go off harder off the rim, and the ball becomes more of a 50/50 ball but your bigs are down low boxing out. So the small guards are quickly able to get the board. We only won the rebounding battle 34-32, which is usually an area we do much better at. We also are not able to get back for quick easy buckets off of blocked shots because their guards are already outside of the arc. If they are driving, there are more run out opportunities. This was not a tweak failure because the tweak was about our guards on offense and our offense was great. We hit 11 threes...11. Our highest scoring regular season game this year was 92 against UT-Arlington and we only hit 8. The tweak seemed to be doing more traditional dribble drive, drive and then kick it out for a wide open 3. We have shied away from shooting the 3 because of our poor shooting but the drive draws off the defender, giving you a good look and it allows Andrew or Tyler to be an additional man inside for the rebound. That seemed to work fine. The only additional element that didnt work was Johnson wanted to shoot more mid range jumpers and he shot one that wasnt close and we didnt have a big inside to rebound the miss. That was just 2 points. I liked when WCS was guarding Moody for one play. He shut him down. Not sure why they went away from that unless WCS was spent from chasing him down. This was good for them, gave them an opportunity to have to work hard for a win against a matchup that is really going to be tough to beat. Maybe the hype train can rest a little for now. Did we become exposed? I dont think so, if I can peg this as the recipe to beating UK, Im sure head coaches being paid the big bucks had that figured out as well. Texas A&Ms starting lineup is very similar to Ole Miss...3 guards and 2 forwards. Their forwards are 69/68, Ole Miss was 69/69 Now their starting lineup tonight scored a whopping 22 points the entire game...but it wasnt Kentucky and that game was on the road. So we will see what happens, A&M doesnt scare me but neither did Ole Miss...so you never know. It will not likely be our last scare... https://youtube/watch?v=XA4HVQHSXuU
